Featuring ceramic works and archival material drawn from Clay Art Center’s collections, Radical Pots & Cooperative Hands features a number of Katherine Choy’s dynamic, genre-defining ceramic pots presented alongside letters, photographs and archival material that tell the story of Clay Art Center’s remarkable presence in the mid-century artistic community of New York and southeastern Connecticut.
The graphics I developed for "Radical Pots and Cooperative Hands" complement the theme with its bold and dynamic visual elements. The color palette reflects the vibrancy of the exhibited pieces, incorporating earthy tones inspired by the glazes themselves. The typography, modern yet rooted in mid-century tradition, guides visitors through the narrative. Large-scale wall graphics and an in-depth timeline tell the story of Katherine Choy’s engagement with Clay Art Center.
The layout of the exhibition space is carefully designed to showcase the objects while also adding some character; the central platform is a subtle reference to Choy’s exhibition in New Orleans in the 1950s. Video and a “reading corner” encourage exploration and dialogue.
For this exhibition I also created a suite of print materials, posters, and directional signage.
