The Hebrew Home in Riverdale issued a design challenge to make a niche in their senior living facility feel like walking into Yankee Stadium. They wanted to create a welcoming space for their residents, many of whom suffer from age-related memory loss, to visit with friends and family to reminisce about Yankee history.

My first step was to transform the space using color -bringing in bright green to evoke the field and a sky blue to emulate the sky. I added another major design component -- a “frieze” along the top to mimic the one in the stadium. A turf surface in the case with the baseball bats enhanced the feel of the stadium, and the pinstripes and fonts in the graphic panels recall the Yankees branding. Recently I added a component of smell to the exhibition. And important to this place in particular, we worked with the client and a fabricator to develop a system that could be accessed by people standing and those in wheelchairs.

Th exhibition “Yankees Dugout” was covered on the first page of The New York Times and in several other important news outlets
