Tony Phillips, a Professor of Mathematics, Emeritus at Stony Brook University was celebrating over fifty years on the faculty. He is an avid collector of pre-Columbian textiles; he is fascinated with the geometry within these pieces. The Simons Center for Geometry and Physics at Stony Brook University honored him by mounting an exhibition of textiles from his collection.
I developed the graphic concepts, mathematic infographics, and exhibition layout, and managed production of all the graphics and casework. Per Tony’s request, I worked with a fabricator that built three mirrored cases so the visitor could see both sides of the textile simultaneously. The exhibit opening culminated in a day-long symposium bringing together experts on textiles and other aspects of mathematics.
