Exhibition Design

The Bernard Museum at Temple Emanu-El wanted to create an exhibition telling Barbra Streisand's story from a different angle. A collector in Palm Springs lent the museum a vast quantity of Streisand artifacts, including her yearbook photograph at Erasmus Hall in Brooklyn, her beaded gown from Funny Girl, and a video of her Saturday Night Live appearance.

I worked with the museum curator to determine placement of the objects.  We also created two interactive exhibition features:   a wall of mirrors, and, in collaboration with Aaron Parach Productions, a soundproof karaoke booth with a mixing table where visitors could distort and adjust one another's voices while singing classic along with Streisand’s most popular hits.

The exhibition was featured in the New York Post.

I had been wanting to work with Johanna on an exhibition for a few years, and when we decided to mount an exhibition about Barbra Streisand it was great timing. Johanna’s approach brought us just the right amount of whimsy, clean lines and a keen eye that was the perfect fit for the subject matter. Her creativity generated many great ideas, including some high tech features like our recording studio! I could not have done this exhibition without her. I look forward to collaborating with Johanna in the future.
